Community Garden
Community gardening is a great way to get fitter, feel better and make new friends. In Neville's Cross we have a diverse community made of people from outside the region and also the from outside this country. Our activities aim to provide people an opportunity to form friendship and a support network.
One of our other aims is to improve the appearance and biodiversity of our area and to create a community garden, a shared space that can be used by all the people and wildlife in our wonderful neighourhood.
Currently we are searching for a plot of land that could be developed into a communal space which could include an allotment patch or a wildlife garden. For the children of Neville's Cross we'd like to have a storytelling chair and enchanted corner and give our young adults a space that they an enjoy and also learn new skills and about healthy eating.
We have identified a few plots of land which have great potential and will offer great benefit to our community. With any luck we predict that we will be given permission to develop some land in the heart of Neville's Cross! Please check back on this page in May/June.
A map will be produced once we have been given permission.

Community Garden for Nevilles Cross
In our world there are young people and older people and we all have a different take on life. If there was a community garden, there would be a space for people of all ages. There would be ball games and other sports. Some people would start clubs like an art club or a gardening team to help the area look splendid. Some sheltered benches and picnic benches would be dotted around the site. On a hot day get fresh cold water from a fountain, splash it on your face fill up your water bottle and off you go. All round this would benefit everyone.
Some people don’t have a garden or live in a small house and they don’t have anywhere to go in the summer. Just imagine if you look out of your window on a lovely day but you can’t go and relax in a pool or cool down with a cold drink. Then you remember that the community garden will have a stall selling cold drinks and there is bound to be someone I know. Some may say what about all the screeching children but there would be cool activities for them. This might cost a lot of money to keep going but we would keep going on donations from local businesses and other fundraising ideas. Budding volunteers would look after the garden as well as the club.
The website: [email protected] lists lots of evidence supporting community gardens. They improve access to fruit and vegetables, mental and social opportunity’s, physical activity and promotes healthy eating. There are lots of examples of grants being given to community gardens because they are so beneficial. There is a report from The Kings Fund that links access to green space to positive physical and mental health.
Come on deep down we all know you are a keen gardener. Who cares if you get a bit of mud down the back of your nails. This is the definitive answer for all the people whose phones or gaming controllers are glued to their hands. This will benefit everyone mentally, physically and socially.
